Paestum is a doric town of Magna Graecia founded in the fourth century BC, it retains the unique masterpieces of the most beautiful of all ancient civilizations such as the Temples of Athena, Hera and Neptune. During your visit to the town of Paestum or called also Poseidona you can walk along the streets and see the remains of habitatons and the Square (Agorà).
Paestum remained Greek until 410 BC when it was invaded by the Lucans, a warlike people of the hinterland. But if the Greeks lost on the battlefields, they won on a cultural level, because the Lucan acquired greek lifestyles; they began to dress like them, to follow their ways of life and even to bury the dead as the Greeks and the tombs that left are among the most beautiful of all the antiquities which you can see in the Archaeological Museum of Paestum. In addition to the funeray  art you will see unique pieces such as painted vases and frescos.  In 300 BC the Romans conquered the city of Poseidona and gave it the name of  Paestum.
